Here is a group of medalists. Not in the Olympics but highway medals.
Army Having Fun
At The World’s Largest Truck Stop they had a 1917 Army truck on display. Possibly one much like the ones involved in the cross country convoy in 1919 that Lt. Col. Eisenhower travelled with, which is one of the events we’re commemorating with our trip.
World’s Largest Truck Stop
One of our stops on the way through Iowa was The World’s Largest Truck Stop. This stop is so big it has a trucking museum where we were greeted by local people and provided with some of the best pies I’ve eaten in a long time.
Other Convoy Bloggers
I think it’s fascinating that I’m not the only blogger on this trip. There are several of us and you ought to check them out. Here’s a list of them which you can find on the AASHTO website.
Nebraska Ethanol Board
I got some support here in Omaha from the Nebraska Ethanol Board. Administrator, Todd Sneller came out in the Governor’s E85 Avalanche.
Omaha Press Conference
To our pleasant surprise today, the Governor of Nebraska attended our press conference here in Omaha. Right now I’m in the parking lot of the QWest Center where we have a traffic mobility showcase taking place. The Ethanol Truck is on display here with materials to hand out to the public.
Follow The Leader
It has been a long day on the interstate. I have some more to post for you but it’s too late at this point. This picture shows how we follow the leader in the convoy. The truck I’m driving is in the reflection of the truck in front of me.
Interstate Perspectives Symposium
After arriving at Cheyenne, WY the interstate convoy attended an evening symposium called, “Interstate Perspectives.” We heard from highway historians and people who have worked on building the highways.
Blogging Ethanol
There are a lot of cameras floating around on this trip and you have no idea when someone’s going to take your picture. This is an ethanol blogger in action.
Windmill Farm
Cruising along I-80 today I came across a form of renewable energy sitting on a hilltop. These windmills are just huge.
