The Clean Cities Congress & Expo is about to kick off and so is our coverage here on Domestic Fuel. One of the organizations exhibiting at the show is the National Biodiesel Board. I just visited their office yesterday since I’ll be helping NBB Director of Communications, Jenna Higgins, with a media training workshop on Sunday and we were looking at some camera equipment. So I asked her a couple questions about why the NBB is involved and what she’ll be teaching her workshop participants.

Former CIA Director Talks Renewable Fuels at BIO
The plenary breakfast speaker today, R. James Woolsey, Vice President, Booz Allen Hamilton, Former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, just finished speaking. He really focused on how biotechnology can play a role in our national security. Besides what most people probably think of first in terms of cures or innoculants for bio-terror induced disease he spent a while talking about energy and independence from terrorist controlled foreign oil.
IL Gov Blagojevich Mentions Renewable Fuels
It wasn’t real easy but I was able to ask llinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, a quick question after he cut the ribbon prior to the trade show here at BIO 2006. I asked him about agriculture since I only had one question and in his answer he mentions renewable energy and corn and soybeans.

The #17 Team Ethanol car is on display here at BIO 2006 in the Novozymes booth. Nobozymes is one of the sponsors of the car. It seems like the presence of biotech companies at BIO is on the increase.

Ethanol Industry Saddened By Loss of IRL Driver Paul Dana
The Ethanol Promotion and Information Council is not only a Domestic Fuel sponsor but sponsor of Rahal-Letterman Racing. Today the team suffered a serious blow when the #17 Ethanol car was in a pre-race warmup accident and driver and ethanol champion Paul Dana died from the injuries he suffered. “It is a black day for us, and on behalf of Rahal Letterman Racing, our sponsors and associates, our prayers and sympathy go out to the entire Dana family,” said team co-owner Bobby Rahal, the 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner. “This is a great tragedy. As a result, and in honor of Paul, we will not run the team’s No. 15 (with driver Buddy Rice, the 2004 Indy 500 winner) and No. 16 (with driver Danica Patrick, the 2005 Indy 500 and IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year) cars in today’s event.”
